Secondary Years

Online Book Club (Secondary Years)

Our Book Clubs are run by informed and experienced teachers where small groups study books together and engage in lively discussion online. These sessions are perfect for everyone from book worms to reluctant readers.

Depending on the needs of the group, these lessons can be more formal and structured to embed students’ knowledge of literary devices and genre, or they can be more relaxed, incorporating comparisons to film adaptations, graphic novels and more.

We ran a pilot scheme for young people in year 7 throughout the spring and summer terms of 2020 and the feedback we had was fantastic.

All the students enthused about the texts they studied (Harry Potter, Northern Lights, and some introductions to Shakespeare to name a few) and loved the very social aspect of the sessions!

Young people benefit from Book Club by

  • improving their critical thinking
  • developing a deeper understanding of others
  • practicing debating and facilitating conversations
  • adding it on a CV
  • feeling more confident in leading and speaking
  • build long-lasting friendships
